DAMA South Africa is a not-for-profit, vendor-independent, global association of technical and business professionals dedicated to advancing the concepts and practices of information and data management.
We focus our efforts into the 3 keys areas below.
It’s becoming more and more common place that businesses, who work with data professionals, are expecting Certified Data Management Professionals to be doing the work. DAMA South Africa will gladly assist anyone, who is interested in data to understand what it means to hire or become a CDMP.
We run at least four events a year around the country to give our members the opportunity to come together, hear interesting speakers and take the opportunity to meet others and share experiences. These events are setting the tone on how we as South African’s address and use data from Business and/or CDMP view.
DAMA is a global community of Data Management Professionals organised around local membership based chapters. The chapters are supported by DAMA-International who maintain the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBoK) and the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) certification.
DAMA’s primary purpose is to promote the understanding, development and practice of managing data and information as key enterprise assets to support the organisation.
DAMA Southern Africa is a local chapter, and our aim is to nurture a community of data professionals in Southern Africa who champion the value of data management. The benefits of membership are based on our four main offerings.
The Southern Africa Chapter was formed in 2006 and we hold monthly Chapter meetings providing interesting and educational presentations and discussion forums on data management subjects. These meetings provide significant networking opportunities. We also run a number of special interest groups that delve into data modelling, big data and data science, privacy and ethics – follow the links from our communities page.
